Credits & expiration

Where AI credits come from, the order they're spent in, and exactly when each kind expires.

Overview

Credits are the unit of AI resource consumption in Intempt. Blu chat turns, content generation, transcription, image and video generation, recipe runs, and data enrichment lookups all draw on them.

Credits arrive from four sources, and each source has its own expiry clock. This page is the reference for all of them. For how credits fit into the rest of your bill (seat price, usage meters), see Usage & billing.

📘 Good to know

Only top-up credits are durable. Everything else is use-it-or-lose-it on a weekly or monthly clock. That's the standard across AI tools priced this way, and it's why the spend order below is designed to burn the perishable credits first.

When each one expires

MonthlyStart of each billing monthEnd of that billing monthNo

Top-UpOn purchase12 months from the purchase dateYes, for the full 12 months

The two 12-month clocks (signup bonus and top-ups) are swept daily at 03:00 UTC, so a pack that lapses overnight leaves your balance the next morning rather than at the exact minute it expires. The weekly and monthly pools are cleared by their own reset instead: Monday 00:00 UTC for the weekly grant, and your billing-cycle boundary for Monthly and AI Pass.

The Free weekly grant has a 12-month life

The Free plan grants 15 credits per week per non-viewer member, capped at 3 members. That's 45 credits per week for a full Free organization.

That grant runs for at most 12 months from the date the organization was created, then stops. Free credits are not infinite. After the 12 months, a Free organization keeps every non-AI feature and every seat, but needs to upgrade or buy a top-up pack to keep running AI operations.

Viewers hold no seat and don't count toward the 3-member ceiling, or earn credits of their own.

Annual plans still get credits monthly

Prepaying 12 months lowers your per-seat rate by 20%. It does not hand you 12 months of credits up front. Your monthly allocation is granted on the 1st of each month at 00:00 UTC and expires at the end of that month, exactly as it does on a monthly plan.

Mid-cycle plan and seat changes don't grant credits

Money is prorated. Credits are not.

Changing plan or seat count mid-cycle sets the new per-seat allocation for your next billing cycle. It doesn't add credits to the current one, and it doesn't take any away. If you need credits immediately, buy a top-up pack.

The order credits are spent in

Intempt always spends the credit closest to expiring first, so nothing is wasted while a durable balance sits idle:

Weekly bonus → Signup bonus → Monthly → AI Pass → Top-Up

Your top-up balance is the last thing touched, because it's the only balance with 12 months of life on it. Within the signup-bonus and Top-Up pools, individual grants and packs are burned oldest-expiry-first as well, so an older top-up pack drains before a newer one.

You can see the live split across all four pools in Settings → Billing, on the Wallet breakdown card.

Running out

Blu checks your balance once, before it makes the first model call of a turn. If the organization has no credits left, the turn is refused before any work starts and you'll see:

Your organization is out of credits. Please top up to continue.

Retrying won't help. The turn is blocked until the balance is topped up.

The check happens only at the start of a turn, never in the middle of one. A turn that has already begun runs to completion and bills for every call it makes, even if that takes the balance below zero. So a single expensive turn can finish slightly into the negative, and the next turn is what gets refused.

Running out doesn't touch your data, your seats, or any non-AI feature. CRM, journeys, experiments, dashboards, segments, and non-AI workflow steps keep working normally. Only the AI operations stop.

📘 Good to know

Viewers can't start a credit-consuming turn at all, regardless of the balance. Viewers hold no seat, so Blu refuses the turn before it reaches the credit check.

Spend caps

Spend caps are a separate control from your balance. An organization can have plenty of credits and still block an operation because a member has hit their own cap.

ScopeSet on
OrganizationEveryone in the organization
ProjectEveryone working in that project
MemberOne person

Caps reset monthly, and a member can additionally be given a weekly pace limit so a month's allowance isn't spent in a day.

Caps are enforced ahead of time, on operations whose cost is known before they run, such as data enrichment. Work whose cost is only known after it finishes is always reported and billed, never rejected halfway.

Keeping a balance topped up

Two options, both under Settings → Billing:

  • Top-up packs. One-time purchases between 50 and 1,000 credits. See Usage & billing for pack pricing.
  • Auto-reload. Buys a fixed pack automatically whenever your balance drops below a threshold you set. You can cap the total it's allowed to spend per month, and cap how many times it can fire.

Both land in the Top-Up pool with a fresh 12-month expiry.

Where to go next

  • Usage & billing for plan pricing, AI Pass tiers, top-up pack prices, and what common operations cost.
  • Project limits for the per-tier seat, project, and API rate limits.
  • Blu Chat for what actually spends credits.
