Blu in Content Builder & Creative Studio

How Blu generates and edits images and video in Content Builder, builds brand ads in Creative Studio, and fixes emails from their preflight report.

Overview

Content Builder is where every content item lives: images, brand ads, HTML and plain-text emails, SMS, push, Slack, pages, and more. Two of its surfaces are built around Blu instead of a manual editor: Image Studio, for AI-generated images, and Creative Studio, for brand ads. Video has its own Studio surface too, built the same way. A separate surface, email preflight, uses Blu to fix problems it finds rather than to create content from scratch.

This article covers generating and editing images with Blu, building a brand ad in Creative Studio, what Video Studio does, and using "Fix with AI" on an email's preflight report.

How it works

Each surface connects to Blu differently

  • Choosing Image as a content item's type opens Image Studio. It has its own Image tool for generating a fresh image from a prompt, plus a docked Blu Chat panel pinned to the same content item for further requests.
  • Brand ads open through Brand Kit's Creative Studio tab, not from Content Builder's own content-type picker. Opening or creating an ad pins the chat to Blu's brand-ad skill, scoped to that ad's design system, avatar, and scene selections.
  • Video has its own Studio surface with a dedicated prompt panel that generates over the same connection Blu Chat uses.

Generating and editing images

Image Studio's tool rail includes an Image tool: click it, describe the image in the Describe the image box, and click Generate image. The result lands directly on the canvas.

  1. Canvas. Shows the current image and, once you've generated more than one, lets you flip between variants.
  2. Tool rail. Image, Background, Erase, Lasso, Shadows, Enhance, Upscale, and Crop. Each opens a small panel for that operation.
  3. Chat panel. Docked on the right, pinned to this content item. You can also describe a change here directly; the canvas updates once Blu's response is ready.

Once an image exists, the rest of the tool rail edits it in place:

  • Background removes or replaces the background.
  • Erase removes whatever you paint over, using a fill prompt to describe what should appear instead.
  • Lasso selects a region and edits just that area from a prompt.
  • Shadows adds or removes drop shadows, contact shadows, or a blurred background.
  • Enhance sharpens the image, with a content-type hint (general, people, product, text) and a strength setting.
  • Upscale increases resolution by 2x or 4x.
  • Crop crops, resizes, or expands the canvas, including an AI fill for expanded areas.

Each tool applies its operation to the current image and replaces the canvas once it's done.

Generating a video

Video Studio has its own prompt panel, separate from Image Studio's: a Prompt box, aspect ratio and duration presets, optional brand context (character, studio, and design system, defaulting to whatever you've already selected elsewhere in Blu), a camera-motion preset, and voice and music settings for the generated clip. Filling these in and clicking Generate sends the request over the same connection Blu Chat uses, and the result appears as a new version you can play back and swap between.

📘 Good to know

There's currently no "video" option in Content Builder's content-type picker, so this surface isn't reachable from a "New" flow the way Image is. Everything above describes what the surface does once you're viewing a video content item.

Building a brand ad in Creative Studio

Creative Studio is the canvas editor for brand ads, reached from Brand Kit's Creative Studio tab rather than Content Builder's content-type picker. Ask Blu appears in two places:

  • A button in the editor toolbar, labeled Ask Blu, that opens the chat scoped to the ad you're editing.
  • A tile labeled Ask Blu on a blank page, alongside tiles to add text, an element, or an image directly.

  1. Toolbar. Undo/redo, the ad's title, the Ask Blu button, and the save controls.
  2. Blank-page tiles. Add text, Add element, Add image, and Ask Blu, for going from an empty page straight to a described result.
  3. Chat panel. Opens scoped to this specific ad, including its design system, avatar, and scene, so Blu's response lands on this ad and not a new one.

Before the ad is saved for the first time, Blu can still build it: your in-progress pages, design system, avatar, and scene go to Blu as part of the chat context, and Blu can create the ad from that without an ad ID yet. Once you save, the canvas reloads automatically whenever Blu makes a change mid-chat.

Save controls, in the toolbar's save dropdown:

  • Save writes your current changes.
  • Save as new saves the current canvas as a separate ad, leaving the original untouched.
  • Save as template stores the ad as a reusable template.
  • Publish as ad feed turns the saved ad into an ad feed. Disabled until the ad has been saved at least once.

Fixing an email from its preflight report

Email preflight checks an HTML email before you send it, across seven tabs: Inbox preview, Device previews, CSS Compatibility, Link validator, Grammar & content, Deliverability, and Visual design. Open it from the Preflight button in the email editor's toolbar, which shows a count of open issues or a checkmark once there are none.

  1. Gate badge. Ship, Hold, or Reject, based on what the checks found.
  2. Section nav. Switches between Inbox preview, Device previews, CSS Compatibility, Link validator, Grammar & content, Deliverability, and Visual design.
  3. Fix with AI. Sends Blu a fix prompt built from the current report, opens the chat, and closes the preflight dialog so you land back on the email editor to watch the fix land.

📘 Good to know

Fix with AI only appears once a preflight run has produced a report to fix. Running the checks again (the refresh icon) re-generates that report against your latest edits.

Getting started

Generate an image

  1. Open Content Builder and click New.
  2. Choose Image as the content type. This opens Image Studio.
  3. Click the Image tool in the tool rail, describe the image in the prompt box, and click Generate image.
  4. The image lands on the canvas.
  5. Use the rest of the tool rail (Background, Erase, Lasso, Shadows, Enhance, Upscale, Crop), or the docked chat panel, to keep editing it without leaving the canvas.

Build a brand ad

  1. Go to Brand Kit and open the Creative Studio tab.
  2. Click Ask Blu in the toolbar, or the Ask Blu tile on a blank page.
  3. Describe the ad: what it's for, its size, and any design system, avatar, or scene it should use.
  4. Blu builds the ad's pages and layers in the chat response.
  5. Click Save, or use the save dropdown for Save as new, Save as template, or Publish as ad feed.

Fix an email with Blu

  1. With an HTML email open in the email editor, click Preflight.
  2. Review the flagged sections; the gate badge shows Ship, Hold, or Reject.
  3. Click Fix with AI.
  4. Blu Chat opens with a fix prompt already filled in from the report. Send it as-is or edit it first.
  5. Blu applies the fix to the email you're editing.

Use cases

  1. Generating a product image from a description. Open Image Studio, describe the shot (product, background, lighting), and let Blu generate it instead of sourcing or shooting one.
  2. Cleaning up a generated image. Use Erase to remove an unwanted object, or Background to swap a busy background for a plain one, without regenerating the whole image.
  3. Building a brand ad from a blank canvas. Use the Ask Blu tile on a new ad's blank page instead of assembling text, image, and element layers by hand.
  4. Iterating on a saved ad. Reopen a saved ad and use the toolbar's Ask Blu button to ask for a specific change, like a new headline or a resized layout.
  5. Turning a one-off ad into a reusable template. Save as template once an ad's layout works, instead of rebuilding the same structure for the next campaign.
  6. Publishing a finished ad as a feed. Use Publish as ad feed once an ad is saved, to make it available where ad feeds are consumed elsewhere in the product.
  7. Catching deliverability issues before sending. Run Preflight on an HTML email and check the gate badge before you send a campaign.
  8. Fixing flagged issues without leaving the editor. Use Fix with AI on a Hold or Reject result instead of manually resolving each flagged issue yourself.
  9. Producing a branded video clip. Open an existing video content item's Studio and set the brand character, studio, and camera motion before generating, instead of describing all of that in the prompt by hand.
