Email Drafting & Reply Generation with Blu
Blu triages your inbox, drafts replies for emails that need one, and generates outreach messages you can send from a prospect's profile.
Overview
Blu handles your email in three connected ways. It triages incoming mail as it arrives and drafts replies automatically for messages that need one. It drafts (or redrafts) a reply on demand whenever you click Reply or Reply All on a thread. And it drafts outreach messages (email, SMS, LinkedIn, or a call script) for a specific prospect, generated from that prospect's profile.

📘 Good to know
This article covers Blu drafting replies to mail you receive and outreach you send. It doesn't cover the AI-assisted email editor inside a journey's "Send email" step. That's a separate content-authoring flow. See Creating emails with the email editor.
How it works
Automatic inbox triage and draft replies
Turn on Enable inbox intelligence on the Inbox tab of your profile, and every new email gets sorted into one of eight categories: Meeting update, Marketing, To respond, FYI, Comment, Notification, Awaiting reply, and Actioned. For each category you choose what happens next:
| Action | Effect |
|---|---|
| Move to folder | Email is labeled and removed from your inbox |
| Label & keep in inbox | Email is labeled but stays in your inbox |
| Don't categorize | Blu skips this category entirely |
"To respond" and "FYI" can only be labeled or skipped. They can't be moved to a folder.
When a thread lands in To respond, Blu drafts a reply in your voice and saves it as a real draft on the thread, ready for you to review before sending. Two settings control when this happens, both on the Replies tab under Profile → About Blu:
- Enable draft replies. Turns automatic drafting on or off for threads where the last message is from the other person.
- Enable follow-up drafts. A separate toggle (only available once draft replies are on) for threads where you sent the last message and haven't heard back.
You also set How often do you reply?, which tunes how readily Blu treats a thread as needing a response. Reply grounding data (a pricing page, documentation, calendar booking link, and security/compliance docs URL) is available for Blu to pull into a drafted reply when relevant.
📘 Good to know
Custom rules and per-category actions are checked before Blu calls its categorization model. A rule that matches a sender, domain, or subject decides the category and skips the AI classification step for that thread.
Replying to a thread with Blu
Open a user's or account's Emails tab and click Reply or Reply All on any thread. If Blu already saved an automatic draft on that thread, it loads straight into the composer. Otherwise, Blu generates one live, you'll see "Blu is drafting your reply..." while it works.
Once the draft is in the composer, edit it directly, or use one of the refine chips, Shorter, More formal, Add urgency, Friendlier, or type your own instruction, to have Blu regenerate the draft with that change. Your edits save as a draft automatically while you type. Toggle Cc: Blu to add Blu to the thread so it can help with scheduling, then click Send.
Drafting outreach messages
From a user's profile, click Draft AI message and choose a channel: cold email (with a sequence step from 1 to 5), SMS, LinkedIn, or a call script. Add optional context about the prospect, then generate. Blu builds the message from that prospect's CDP attributes plus your outreach configuration:
- Seller persona and communication personality, set on the Persona tab.
- Outreach methodology, set on the Outreach tab: one of three sales frameworks (T.I.P.S., P.V.P., P.A.S.) that shapes how Blu builds the message. T.I.P.S. and P.V.P. each map to a five-step cold email sequence you can preview step by step; the sequence number you pick in Draft AI message corresponds to that step.
For inbound replies, Blu follows a separate framework by default: A.C.E. (Acknowledge, Clarify, Engage), shown on the Replies tab.

Use cases
- Clearing inbox noise. Turn on inbox intelligence so marketing and notification emails file themselves away, and only threads that need a response stay visible.
- Never missing a reply-worthy email. Enable draft replies so every "To respond" thread already has a starting draft waiting for you.
- Chasing a quiet prospect. Enable follow-up drafts so Blu prepares a nudge once a thread's gone unanswered from the other side.
- Answering a pricing question fast. Set your reply grounding data once, and Blu pulls your pricing link into drafts without you typing it every time.
- Softening a draft before sending. Click Friendlier or More formal on a generated reply instead of rewriting it from scratch.
- Protecting a VIP sender from auto-filing. Add a custom rule so emails from a specific domain or sender always land in a chosen category, regardless of what the AI would otherwise pick.
- Kicking off a new sequence step. Generate step 2 of a cold email sequence for a prospect who replied positively to step 1.
- Getting Blu looped in on scheduling. Toggle Cc: Blu on a reply so Blu can help coordinate a meeting time from the same thread.
- Matching your outreach to your team's style. Switch between T.I.P.S., P.V.P., and P.A.S. methodologies to see which sequence structure fits a given prospect.
Getting started
Turn on inbox triage and draft replies:
- Open your profile menu and go to Inbox.
- Toggle Enable inbox intelligence on.
- For each category, pick Move to folder, Label & keep in inbox, or Don't categorize.
- Turn on Respect my existing labels if you don't want Blu to touch mail you've already filtered, and set a Marketing filter strength.
- Go to About Blu → Replies and turn on Enable draft replies (and Enable follow-up drafts, if you want those too). Enable conversation threading in Gmail or Outlook using the on-screen instructions, so drafts land on the right thread.
Reply to a thread:
- Open a user's or account's Emails tab, open a thread, and click Reply or Reply All.
- Edit the draft, or click a refine chip to have Blu regenerate it.
- Click Send (or Cc: Blu first, if you want Blu on the thread).
Draft an outreach message:
- Open a prospect's profile and click Draft AI message.
- Choose a channel and, for email, a sequence step, then generate.
- Set the seller persona, personality, and methodology behind these drafts on About Blu → Persona and → Outreach.
