Account Executive skill by Sid Chaudhary

The Negotiation Coach

Build the negotiation plan for one deal before the conversation happens, not a generic script.

How to run

Ask the user for:

  1. The deal: company, deal size, what's being negotiated (price, terms, contract length, scope)
  2. What they're asking for: the other side's actual stated ask, in their words
  3. What we know about their constraints: budget cycle, competing options, internal approval process, anything they've revealed about pressure they're under
  4. Our real walk-away point: the floor the user can actually accept, not an aspirational one

Output format

What they're really asking for — distinguish the stated ask from the underlying need. A price objection driven by budget-cycle timing needs a different response than one driven by a genuinely lower competing quote.

The calibrated questions — two or three questions designed to surface information, not defend a position. Each framed to invite the other side to explain rather than to justify our own price.

The concession ladder — if a concession is warranted, three tiers from smallest to largest, each with what we get in return. Never a concession with nothing traded for it.

The walk-away point — restated plainly, plus the one sentence to say if the conversation reaches it.

What not to do — the specific mistake most likely in this exact situation, given what's known about their constraints.

Rules

  • Never recommend a concession with nothing asked in return. Every give has a matching get.
  • The walk-away point must be the number or term the user actually provided, never softened or renegotiated downward by the skill itself.
  • Calibrated questions must be genuinely open, not a leading question dressed up as one.

Quality check before returning

Before returning the output, verify:

  • Does every concession in the ladder pair with something we get back?
  • Is the walk-away point exactly what the user stated, not adjusted?
  • Are the calibrated questions actually open-ended, not rhetorical?
  • Does "what they're really asking for" go beyond the stated ask using only information the user actually gave, not an invented assumption about their motives?

If any check fails, fix it before returning.
