Diversity & inclusion
The best companies bring together diversity in race, age, ability, sexuality, gender identity, ethnicity, perspectives, and ideas. People do their best work when they feel included, valued, and treated as equals. This page sits alongside our Social Code and Hiring policies.
What we know
- A diverse team is important for building better products
- An inclusive environment is just as important as the diversity itself
- We sometimes struggle to hire diverse profiles -- candidate pools are often dominated by certain demographics, not because of flaws in our process
- We're open-minded people willing to become more aware of our blind spots
What we observe
Work often suits extroverts better. Most of us are introverted, including the CEO. There's a lot of variation across diversity variables on the team. Most leaders are male. We maintain equal pay between men and women in the same role. We don't use quotas.
What we do about it
- Fight bias in hiring -- evaluate test assignments without seeing the resume
- Emphasize wanting diverse profiles in every job posting
- Track diversity data so we can see where we stand
- Guard equal pay across gender for the same role
- Actively source diverse profiles instead of waiting for them to apply
Diversity isn't a checkbox. It's an ongoing effort that requires honesty about where we fall short.
