Customer data management basics

Event tracking captures actions. A CDP unifies identity, profiles, and context across sources, then makes that data usable for activation. In Intempt, the CDP is what lets Journeys, Experiences, CRM workflows, and Analytics run off the same real-time profile without exporting, syncing, or rebuilding audiences in each tool.

It starts with anonymous identifiers like device or session IDs. When a known identifier appears email from a form, a logged-in user ID, a purchase the system links all prior anonymous history to the known profile. This prevents 'new user' resets when someone returns or switches devices, and ensures that journey triggers fire with full behavioral context, not just the current session.

Events stream into Intempt and update profiles immediately there is no batch delay. This matters when you want to react during the session or right after a key action. Pricing page visits, activation milestones, cart events, and churn signals lose value fast. When events flow in immediately, journeys can trigger, experiments can branch, and CRM workflows can fire while intent is still high.

Static fields go stale. Computed traits recalculate from live behavior and history. Examples include LTV, last seen, RFM stage, engagement score, likelihood to convert, and churn risk. Blu builds these from your event stream and keeps them current automatically so targeting and scoring always reflect what customers actually did recently, not what was true when someone last exported a CSV.

Governance decides what can be collected, stored, and activated. Consent controls whether tracking starts and which identifiers can be used. Retention rules control how long data is kept.
