The Repeat Purchase Check
Take the flows a customer sees after their first order and find the specific gap, timing or message, that's stopping the second one.
Input integrity. Run the checks in references/data-input-integrity.md before computing
anything, and report what they found. Each one produces a confident wrong answer rather than
a visible error, so a broken input does not announce itself. Recent cohorts have not had time to repeat, so they always look worse. Do not read an immature cohort as a decline.
Where a check cannot run because the export lacks the field, say so and state what it limits
the conclusion to.
Before you write
Run the input list below before you write anything. If one of those inputs is missing, ask for
it and stop. Do not return a draft with a warning on it.
The user copies the draft and leaves the warning behind, so a caveat protects you and not them.
Ask at most THREE questions. Hard cap. Before anything becomes a question, get it yourself:
read .agents/product-context.md, fetch the site or page they named, compute it from numbers they
already gave, or look up the platform default. Whatever is left after that, and everything past the
third question, becomes a stated assumption the user corrects in one word rather than a question
that stops the work. Number them, and say what you will assume if one goes unanswered.
Check .agents/product-context.md first so you never ask for something already recorded there.
No context file, no problem. Build it, do not bounce the user. If .agents/product-context.md
does not exist, research the company yourself: their site for positioning, offer, tiers, voice and
proof, plus public sources for competitors and category. Ask only for what research genuinely cannot
establish, inside the three-question budget. Write what you learn to .agents/product-context.md so
the next skill does not repeat the work, and say in one line what you inferred rather than observed.
Never tell the user to go and run a different skill before you can start.
Write it the way you would say it. Read references/house-rules.md and apply it to everything
you return: answer first, ordinary words, short sentences, top three rather than all fourteen, no
em dashes. Its nine-question check, quality plus safety, runs on your output in addition to this skill's own.
Constraints
Ask the product's actual consumption cycle before diagnosing timing. A category inference is a
guess, and the whole diagnosis inverts on it: a reorder prompt that is late for a 30-day consumable is
early for a 90-day one, and recommending the wrong direction is worse than recommending nothing. Ask
how long a unit lasts in normal use, or derive it from the observed gap between first and second
orders among customers who did reorder. Where neither is available, say the timing finding is
unavailable and diagnose only the parts that do not depend on it.
How to run
Ask the user for these inputs. If any are missing, ask before analyzing.
- Existing post-purchase flows: names, trigger, timing, and what each message says, from an export or screenshots.
- Product type and purchase cycle: replenishable, seasonal, gifting, fashion, or durable/one-time. This sets what "normal" reorder timing looks like.
- First-order and second-order product mix, if known: which products tend to lead to a second purchase and which don't.
- Performance data, where available: revenue, open rate, click rate, conversion rate per flow.
- Target outcome: faster repeat purchase, cross-sell to a different product, replenishment timing, or review/loyalty generation.
Method
- List every flow currently touching a customer after their first purchase against this fixed set of 8 stages: welcome, browse abandonment, cart abandonment, post-purchase, usage/education, replenishment, cross-sell, win-back. Mark each Present, Missing, or Overlapping with another stage.
- For replenishable products, compare the replenishment flow's send timing to the stated cycle. Flag it if the send lands more than 20% later than the expected reorder point: reorder point × 1.2. On a 30-day product, that's day 36, so a nudge landing on day 40 is flagged, one landing on day 34 is not. By day 40 the customer has likely reordered elsewhere or decided they don't need it.
- For non-replenishable products (durable, gifting, one-time), the check is message fit, not timing: is there an actual reason to buy again, a complementary product, an upgrade, a gifting occasion, rather than a generic "come back" nudge.
- Score each flow's message against six fit criteria: gives a concrete reason to buy again, includes product education, recommends a specific next-best product (not "shop now"), includes proof, addresses a likely objection, offers customer care. A flow hitting fewer than 3 of 6 is under-built.
- Check for message collision: does more than one flow message the same customer inside a 48-hour window. Flag any overlap as an over-messaging risk.
- Identify missing segments: customers who bought once and never entered any flow afterward, and first-time buyers of a product with no known second-order pairing.
- Recommend the next 3 tests, ranked by how directly they close the biggest gap found above, not by how easy they are to ship.
Output format
Repeat purchase verdict: one line on the single biggest gap in the reorder path.

Rules
- Never recommend a discount as the default fix for weak repeat purchase; check timing and message fit first. Discounting a customer who was never given a reason to reorder trains them to wait for a coupon instead of building a habit.
- Never assume one purchase cycle applies to every product; ask if it isn't given.
- Never invent flow performance numbers or segment sizes not provided.
- If no post-purchase flow data exists, say what's missing rather than run the check on assumptions.
Quality check before returning
Scope of these checks. Two rules before you run them, because testing found both failures in
most skills in this pack:
- A check you cannot answer from the inputs you asked for is conditional, not skippable. If it
needs data the Inputs section never collects, run it only when the user happened to supply that
data. Otherwise say the check did not run and name the input it needed. Never skip it silently,
and never invent the data to make it pass. Inventing is the likelier failure and the worse one.
- Every figure stated in this skill's own instructions is a pack benchmark, not the user's
number. Label it inline as such wherever it reaches the output, or replace it with
[NEED: source] if it is doing real work in a decision and no source exists. House rules 4b and

Before returning the output, verify:
