The daily exception report. Join yesterday's orders and revenue to yesterday's ad spend, compare each figure to its own trailing baseline, and return only the movements large enough to act on. Read-only by design: this loop escalates, it never changes anything.

This loop compares against a trailing baseline, so the contamination rule is load-bearing: exclude any period this loop flagged from the window that judges later runs, and report the baseline value and period count alongside every flag.
Before you write
Run the input list below before you write anything. If one of those inputs is missing, ask for
it and stop. Do not return a draft with a warning on it.
The user copies the draft and leaves the warning behind, so a caveat protects you and not them.
Ask at most THREE questions. Hard cap. Before anything becomes a question, get it yourself:
read .agents/product-context.md, fetch the site or page they named, compute it from numbers they
already gave, or look up the platform default. Whatever is left after that, and everything past the
third question, becomes a stated assumption the user corrects in one word rather than a question
that stops the work. Number them, and say what you will assume if one goes unanswered.
Check .agents/product-context.md first so you never ask for something already recorded there.
No context file, no problem. Build it, do not bounce the user. If .agents/product-context.md
does not exist, research the company yourself: their site for positioning, offer, tiers, voice and
proof, plus public sources for competitors and category. Ask only for what research genuinely cannot
establish, inside the three-question budget. Write what you learn to .agents/product-context.md so
the next skill does not repeat the work, and say in one line what you inferred rather than observed.
Never tell the user to go and run a different skill before you can start.
Write it the way you would say it. Read references/house-rules.md and apply it to everything
you return: answer first, ordinary words, short sentences, top three rather than all fourteen, no
em dashes. Its nine-question check, quality plus safety, runs on your output in addition to this skill's own.
Constraints

A cliff hides the cases worth catching. A single hard multiple or fixed percentage, applied to a
population whose own spread it ignores, fires constantly on naturally volatile units and stays silent
on the ones that matter. Two consequences:
- Use a band, not a cliff. Between roughly 1.5x and 2x the norm is slipping and gets reported
as a watch item; past 2x is breached. The highest-value case is routinely the one sitting at 1.6x,
trending, and invisible to a 2x test.
- Compare each unit against its own variability, not one global number. A metric that swings 30%
week to week and one that swings 3% cannot share a threshold: the first alarms every week and the
second never alarms at all. Where enough history exists, set the band from the unit's own trailing
spread and say you did. Where it does not, use the fixed rule and say it is a fallback.
- Report the direction of travel alongside the level. A unit at 1.4x and rising and a unit at 1.9x
and falling need opposite responses, and a level-only test cannot tell them apart.
How to run
The list below is longer than three, and three is the cap. Most of it you can get without
asking: read the context file, fetch the URL they named, compute it, or look up the platform
default. Ask only for the three that genuinely cannot be derived and that most change the output.
State the rest as assumptions, marked as assumptions, and let the user correct the one that matters.
- Yesterday's order export: order count, gross revenue, discounts, and refunds. Product-level rows if available, store-level totals if not.
- Yesterday's ad spend by channel, and by product or campaign if the export carries it.
- The trailing window for the baseline: 7 or 14 days. Default to 14 if the store has weekday/weekend swing, which most do.
- The deviation band the user considers meaningful, per metric. If they have no view, propose bands and have them confirm - do not silently pick one.
- The minimum volume below which a percentage move is noise. A product going from 1 order to 2 is not a 100% lift.

Method
- Assert the input is real before analyzing it. Count rows. Zero rows, or an order count of zero on a store that normally takes orders, is a failed run: report the failure and stop. Do not report a quiet day.
- Read the ledger first for the stored baseline, the watchlist, and suppressions. Anything under an active suppression is excluded from flagging but still counted, and named in a separate line so it is not invisible.
- On the first run, establish the baseline and flag nothing. State plainly that run one is a baseline run. Without this, every metric reads as a deviation.
- Compute the trailing mean and deviation per metric over the window, using the stated method from
anomaly-detection rather than a gut read. Metrics: order count, gross revenue, AOV, refund rate, spend, and blended ROAS.
- Evaluate the gate per metric: flagged if the value sits outside the confirmed deviation band AND the volume clears the minimum. Both conditions, always. Volume-only or deviation-only flagging is what makes daily reports noisy enough to be ignored.
- Check the three failure shapes a percentage move hides, each of which can look normal in the aggregate:
- Spend continued while revenue for that product went to zero.
- Revenue held while refund rate rose, so the day was worse than it looks.
- AOV moved because the mix changed, not because pricing did.
- Rank flags by dollars at stake, not by percentage deviation. A 40% swing on a product doing $80 a day ranks below a 9% swing on one doing $9,000.
- Give each flag a likely cause and one next step, and mark the cause as a hypothesis. Naming a cause with confidence from one day of aggregate data is the most common way this output misleads.
- Route anything requiring per-SKU margin, stock, or feed depth to the specialist skill rather than guessing here:
margin-monitoring for profitability, stockout-alerts for stock, shopping-feed for catalog and feed, paid-media-audit for channel-level spend triage.
- Append the run to the ledger: input row count, gate result per metric, flags raised, and the updated baseline.
Output format
Pulse verdict: one line - clean, or N flags worth reading, or FAILED with the reason.

Rules
- Never change anything. This loop is read-only, including when the user asks it to act - hand off to the loop that owns that action.
- Never report a zero-row or zero-order input as a clean day.
- Never flag on deviation alone without the volume minimum, or on volume alone.
- Never state a cause as established fact from one day of aggregate data.
- Never flag an item under active suppression, and never hide that it was suppressed.
- Never skip the baseline-only first run.
- Never rank by percentage when dollars are available.
Quality check before returning
Scope of these checks. Two rules before you run them, because testing found both failures in
most skills in this pack:
- A check you cannot answer from the inputs you asked for is conditional, not skippable. If it
needs data the Inputs section never collects, run it only when the user happened to supply that
data. Otherwise say the check did not run and name the input it needed. Never skip it silently,
and never invent the data to make it pass. Inventing is the likelier failure and the worse one.
- Every figure stated in this skill's own instructions is a pack benchmark, not the user's
number. Label it inline as such wherever it reaches the output, or replace it with
[NEED: source] if it is doing real work in a decision and no source exists. House rules 4b and
4c have the full version.
Before returning the output, verify:
